Allergens
Baja Baby uses Organic Essential Oils to scent our Lavender and Soft Citrus product lines. The percentage of Essential Oils within each ingredient list is minute, but nevertheless, it's important for consumers to understand that certain components of Essential Oils can be potential allergens.
Allergens are by-products of Essential Oils, and while many allergens can be synthetically created, we confirm that ours are all-natural.

What Is An Allergen?
Quoted directly from The American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, 'an allergen is a usually harmless substance capable of triggering a response that starts in the immune system and results in an allergic reaction.'
For instance, if you have an allergy to pollen, your immune system identifies pollen as an invader or allergen. The immune system responds by releasing chemicals that typically cause symptoms in the nose, throat, eyes, ears, skin or roof of the mouth.
If your skin comes into direct contact with an allergen which you are knowingly or unknowingly allergic to, you will experience allergic contact dermatitis. This might look like redness, bumps or elevated skin patches, itchiness or swelling at the point of contact. Please consult with your local GP or preferably an immunologist.
Allergens In Baja Baby Products
Any Baja Baby product that contains an Essential Oil also contains trace elements of the allergens listed above. To give you an idea of how much, each Essential Oil takes up less than 0.001% in leave-on products (lotion) and 0.01% in rinse-off products (shampoo & conditioner). The allergens listed above would amount to a significantly smaller percentage as each are just a portion of the essential oil ingredient.
If you are using Baja Baby products for the first time on yourself or your baby, we cannot emphasize enough the importance of performing a patch test prior to use.
Even though our products are all-natural and chemical-free therefore an allergic reaction is unlikely, it doesn’t mean that you or your baby are guaranteed not to react to them.
It's always a good idea, particularly in the case of newborns, to begin with Baja Baby Unscented Collection, which contain zero Essential Oils
How To Do A Patch Test
Performing a patch test is quick and easy.
First, wash and dry your hands, then shake the contents of the product you are using before opening it.
Remove the product safety seal, then put the disk top or pump back on the bottle top, ensuring that it’s tightly affixed.
Next, squeeze a small amount of product onto a cotton bud and gently dab it to the back of the neck and leave it for up to 10 minutes.
If you notice any swelling, redness, itching sensation or bumps, wipe the product off the skin with a cotton pad and clean water immediately. Discontinue use of that product. If there is no reaction at all, then you may proceed with using the product.
In the extremely rare circumstance that an allergic reaction occurs, please contact your nearest medical professional, preferably specializing in immunology.
